Making Hawai'i Home

Getting Settled on the Big Island

*(Above image: we were coincidentally both repping Hawai'i with what we're wearing.)

It is unreal, it has been EIGHT MONTHS being back on the Big Island.   To be honest, we have not fully "settled in" (whatever that means), but we are getting there.

We have been busy with running UofN schools, we have yet to really get our foot into the community like we want and really make ourselves at home.
Random Trivia:
I once heard culture shock & settling in a place can take up to 18 months!

Kona Goals:

Over the next few months we have more time to focus on local ministry & getting settled - yes!  Here are some of our goals:
  • Start dance classes for kids/youth around our Kona community
  • Start Pilates classes and build up clientele for Tammy with Pilates
Random Trivia:
Tammy has had to get a brand new Driver License 5 times within 7 years!  (Incase you were wondering the DMV - no matter the state - doesn't become "more fun").

Prayer Requests:

  • Continue to settle well in Kona!
  • GROW IN DEEPER RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR COMMUNITY:
    • With our YWAM Community
    • With our Kona Community
    • With our Global Community
    • With Jesus!

TAMMY GOING TO LOS ANGELES

Tammy will be attending the WORD IN MOTION Urban Dance Festival in LOS ANGELES, CA this month (JULY).  The end of the festival finishes with the STEP OF HOPE BENEFIT CONCERT for victims of SEX TRAFFICKING if you are in the LA area come check out the concert and support the cause of ENDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

Tammy's Trip Prayer Request:
  • Safe Travel
  • Networking
  • Fresh personal breakthrough
  • Skill sharpening (in dance and I'll be visiting my old Pilates Studios)
  • Provision throughout the trip

Highlights

Tammy's Student Graduates

I had the honor of being an Advisor for a student here at the UofN who completed a Directed Studies Course over the last 3 months.  The course topic was: Dancer Anatomy & Stewardship.  My role was to help setup the curriculum, give & grade assignments, as well as general follow up with the student.  My student went through a very intense time of study, study, study.  The topic was a perfect one for me to advise for given my recent completion of my pilates certification and study of anatomy for pilates/dance.

Andreas in Crossfit

"CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity." -www.crossfit.com
This global fitness movement has invaded the YWAM KONA campus and our YWAMers have been using it as a powerful ministry tool in the area of building community and training people to get the Gospel out!  On our Campus the Crossfit ministry is called: Respect the Corners (RTC).  Since coming back to Kona Andreas has become a regular part of this community of Crossfitters.  He is excited to grow in this  community, fitness, health, and with his Bachelors in Nutrition Physiology that he is currently pursuing.

Vision Statement:

Lead by the wisdom of the Lord, my desire is to see the Kingdom of Heaven released and moving on earth in a radical, relevant, supernatural way, through the performing arts and through performing artists who choose excellence in their relationship with God and excellence in the skills God has given them.

YWAM Kona

"Youth/Dancers With A Mission"

*(Above image will open separate a window for the video.)

You won't believe how much is happening at YWAM Kona - so much, it's hard to keep up with it all!   Recently Andreas and I were asked to share our heart for dance and what God's doing - not only in YWAM Kona but around the world. We got to share about ministry opportunities from our time with Ad Deum(Houston, TX) & my time at Project Dance (NYC).  In addition they interviewed our Artistic Director for HeartBridge - who shared a testimony from an outreach when the HeartBridge team performed at a Hospital.  We are so grateful to be apart of this ministry: YWAM.

The above is just one video to help share what's happening in the life of a couple of us YWAMers, check out more resources and happenings from YWAM Kona here: YWAM Kona's YouTube

Tammy Teaching Dance

I (Tammy) have been teaching weekly classes for YWAM Kona: HipHop & Worship/Intercession Dance.

Andreas Teaching Dance

Andreas has mostly been studying (he recently started his Bachelors in Nutrition Physiology), however he has found time to get into the DANCE STUDIO.

Dancer-Missionary Spotlight:

Our Friend - Emily

I've shared before about our dear friend Emily who we met in Houston, TX while we danced with Ad Deum.  She has been such a joy to have here these past 6 months!  She has been serving by teaching: Ballet & Modern Dance.  She is about to leave for DTS outreach to Chile, Brazil, & Midwest USA.

Our Friend - Rebecca

We met Rebecca when we lived in California.  After receiving a degree in dance, she started a dance ministry out of her home church in California.  She then felt called to join YWAM, she sold everything and came to YWAM Kona.  We are so grateful to have her here!  She also is leaving soon for outreach to Chile, Brazil, & Midwest USA.

Two Special Trips

We're excited to share about God's provision for TWO SPECIAL TRIPS Tammy will be going on.

TRIP 1: PROJECT DANCE NYC

April 22nd-29th, 2016

The short version is:
A trip to NYC quickly, suddenly, and very surprisingly fell into place!

A series of events all lead to:
I (Tammy) read a post from my friend, Cheryl Cutlip, who recently shared about things God's been doing through Project Dance.  Reading her testimony something in me was instantly stirred and I knew had to be at NYC Project Dance 2016.

FAITH rose up in me!  I checked plane tickets.  The tickets for my exact dates were cheaper than any other dates.  The NEXT day a supporter donated all the money for the air-ticket!  I was SHOCKED and BLESSED by God's love. He was not only asking me to partner with Him, but that He was also providing the way.

Project Dance NYC here I come!
PLEASE PRAY!:
For my entire trip, but specifically on Saturday we will be in TIME SQUARE bringing glory to God and sharing His LOVE to the City of New York!  Pray that His GLORY and LOVE would make an impact in lives and in the City.

TRIP 2: WORD IN MOTION DANCE FEST

July 26th-August 3rd, 2016

In July, I will head out to Los Angeles, CA to participate in Word In Motion's Dance Festival.  The trip is still a couple of months out but we wanted to share that this air ticket has SEPARATELY, ALREADY, ALSO been completely covered!

Dancing with Norwegians

Hosting HEDMARKTOPPEN Dance Program

For the past THREE YEARS Andreas & I have been blessed to build relationship with a Dance Program from Norway.  Ironically they have been coming to Kona for 6 years, however...

2014: We first met in Houston, TX.
2015: We helped host them in Los Angeles, CA.
2016: We hosted them this month here in Kailua-Kona - we taught dance & pilates, we performed together, and we provided worship and teaching on Jesus!

Each year we have been with them it has been after they have spent a week in Mexico where they visit with street kids, trafficking victims, and build homes for homeless (http://www.ywamhomesofhope.org/).

It is always an amazing time to be with them!

TESTIMONY

They said "YES TO JESUS"

Hedmarktoppen is a Christian pre-University school, however not everyone who attends their various programs are believers.  That was the case for some in this year's Dance Program.

The night before our last day with the class, I (Tammy) woke up at 3AM, and felt the Lord nudging to get up and pray.  God started speaking . . .

In the morning, I challenged the dancers with what God had spoken in the middle of the night.

TWO CHALLENGES:
  • 1st: in light of their recent trip to Mexico, after seeing all the hardship of the people - would they forget about doing GOOD for others -OR- would they live a life doing GOOD for others in Jesus name?
HALF OF THEM RESPONDED!!!!!  Asking God for help in this area!!!!!!
  • 2nd: God wasn't done!  I felt God say there were some who knew Christ but didn't have relationship with Him because they did not trust Him.   I shared how ONLY JESUS IS TRUSTWORTHY, then asked how many were ready to say "YES to JESUS!"?
FIVE RAISED THEIR HANDS!!  FIVE SAID YES TO JESUS!!

 PRAY

We PRAY that God goes after these 5 relentlessly!  That He transforms their lives with HIS UNFAILING LOVE, and shows off how TRUSTWORTHY He is!  AMEN!

We have a GOOD FATHER!  SO GOOD that He will wake others up at 3am to pray, so that He can get an open door to show HIS LOVE to someone who did not fully know HIS LOVE.

Highlights

Teaching pilates to 19 Norwegian dancers.
Performing on campus  - the Norwegian Dancers also joined!

Dancing for Global Missions Leaders

At the Cunningham's (Kona, Hawaii)

As February turns into March, we call this month "Mad March"- during this month YWAM hosts one meeting after another with global missions leaders.

We spent the last week of February performing at the Cunningham's who are hosting these meetings. We will continue with several more performances over the month of March.  One of the meetings we performed for Wycliffe Bible Translators!  What a privilege to bless & encourage them with our dancing.

After performing at one of the meetings we snapped a picture with Loren Cunningham (seen above) - the Founder of our mission organization - & announced on Facebook that he is our new breakdancer. ;)

Lost Kites

There are several Multi-media / Performing Arts endeavors on our campus. Heartbridge is just one part of that.  Another team that also serves here is called Innovision who sent a team known as the Eloy Project around the world to document the lives of 3 orphans.  Check out their film: LOST KITES.
